Alley Spring Mill and a Redheaded Woodpecker

On our way to the quarry in Eminence in May, I decided to stop and photograph one of my favorite places in Missouri…Alley Spring Mill…they had quite a bit of rain and I made two discoveries on arrival…the first was that the water was up and really rolling out of the spring and down the creek as I was video shooting the mill…

….the second, there was a big woodpecker busy looking for worms at the edge of the mill pond with a big plume of strikingly red hair on top of his head….

…I shot him with my newer camera, a Lumix 480Z…still not happy with it….here is a video of the mill, stream, and woodpecker that I photographed next….

Alley Spring Mill October 2016

I thought I had missed the fall color at Alley Spring Mill this year, but out fall colors have been so far off track, we still have color now, late in November, when normally our trees are barren, leaves brown and on the ground. It`s been an unusual fall season this year. I stopped by Alley Spring Mill one fall morning late in October and found one small maple tree left there in bloom….

Alley Spring Mill April 2016

Onyx and I were on our way to Eminence the morning of April 3rd, to meet members of MAGS…the Memphis Archeological and Geological Society, one of the clubs I am fortunate to be a member of…to take them rock and mineral hunting at the quarry there. It was a cool morning and mist could be seen coming up off the waters of the ponds we passed on the way there, so I decided to stop off at Alley Spring Mill and see if there was mist there as well. It was a good place to stop and stretch our legs as well, and since there was no one else there, I left Onyx off his leash and away we went….
