Double Rainbow and Sunset March 13th

It rained pretty much all day long Wednesday March 13th, I had been checking the radar all afternoon and evening, the last time I checked it, rain showed up all the way west of us to Cuba…however the sky outside was telling a different story…I looked out the window about 6 pm and there was a beautiful orange glow starting to take over the skies…I grabbed my camera and walked outside to see a complete rainbow across the street from me and the other end back behind my house starting to form up. I drove up to the city park to see if I could get back away from it enough to capture the whole thing in a few photos or video, but only by video could I shoot the whole thing or at least come close…

with photos I was only able to shoot both ends, specially after it formed the second shadowing rainbow….

…and this yellow glow in between the beams was really strange, it was like a strong yellow filter slapped over the lens of my camera, and I wasn`t able to remove it even during editing of my images….once the double image formed, I drove over to the north side of I-44 and there, could only photograph the east half of the rainbow…

…and then it began to fade from the southern skies first…as they turned darker and the orange glow of the sunset took over with the beautiful pink clouds above…I drove back over to the city park and shot the sunset from there….

Cloudburst and Rainbow on August 7th, 2018

I was driving back from Mom`s house the evening of August 7th, after taking her supper and visiting with her as I have done every day since her release from the hospital earlier this year…as I turned on to the North Service Road just west of Sullivan, I spotted what appeared to be a cloudburst ahead in the skies….

I had always heard of them, but had never seen one up close like this….sure was neat to see…and when I stopped up on the Hwy FF Bridge over I-44 to shoot some more photos of it, I noticed there was a rainbow forming up under the cloudburst as well….

…and that seemed very unusual to me…I had never heard of such a thing nor seen anything like it, either…

…so I decided to drive close to town to see if it became more visible…as I approached Thomure Lumber, it became very bright and visible underneath the cloudburst !!

…and as I sat there and watched, it appeared that a second rainbow was trying to form on the other side of the cloudburst as well….two rainbows under this cloud….I wonder what the chances are of that….

…here is a video I shot as well…the rainbow doesn`t show up as well as the photos….

Park Hills Show Mid June with Sunrises and Rainbows

I decided I was going to drive down to the Park Hills Show on Sunday morning…I wanted to see if I could find some of those new agates out on the market, found in the country of Madagascar and some more of the chalcopyrite-bladed barite-sphalerite ball pieces found in the Washington County Quarry. Since I knew that would be at least half a day wandering around looking at everything and visiting with my dealer friend Johnny B from Mt Ida, who is always there, I decided to drive back to the Secret Spot Quarry on Saturday June 9th and see what else I could find there. Onyx and I were up before the crack of dawn thanks to my new job, which requires me to get up at 4 am these days to get ready to go to work…and as we exited I-44 at Cuba, I looked back and saw the beautiful sunrise….

…and when I reached Steelville, the sunrise only deepened and got better…

…and then when we reached Cherryville, we saw a beautiful rainbow…I was thinking, man what are we going to see next ??!!

Rainbow April 21st

My neighbors were all excited across the street, pointing up in the street with big smiles on their faces, so I grabbed my camera the other day and walked outside and looked up to see a gorgeous rainbow, that at times even had a small double shimmer to it….

Double Rainbow and Country Sunset

On the way home from rockhunting in Eminence a few weeks ago, my new rockhunting friend Ray Pohlkotte from St Louis at the wheel, slowed down enough for me to photograph a beautiful double rainbow at the junction of Highways 21 and 72….’

…and then farther west up Highway 72, we came across this beautiful pastoral sunset near Highway TT….
